OBD Connector

Privacy Policy

What data the app touches, where it lives, and what it never does.

Summary

OBD Connector collects no personal data, ships no analytics, talks to no servers we operate. Everything happens on your device.

OBD Connector ("the app", "we") is published by Big Apps as a paid iOS application. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app touches, where it lives, and what it never does.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect, store, sell, share, or have access to:

There are no third-party SDKs that perform tracking. There is no signup. There is no account.

Data the app handles, on your device only

The app reads and stores the following data locally, in iOS's protected app sandbox:

This data is included in your standard iCloud Backup (encrypted by Apple) only if you have iCloud Backup enabled at the OS level. We do not run our own cloud sync.

Permissions and why we ask

The app requests these iOS permissions. Granting them is optional; denying any of them disables the corresponding feature but does not break the app.

Bluetooth

Required to connect to a Bluetooth LE OBD-II adapter. The app communicates only with the adapter you pair with; no data is transmitted to any server.

Local Network

Required to connect to a Wi-Fi OBD-II adapter on the same network as your iPhone (typically the adapter's own Wi-Fi access point). No internet traffic.

Location (While Using)

Required only for the Trips feature to record your GPS route. Location data stays on the device; we do not upload, share, or sell it.

Notifications

Required only to remind you about scheduled vehicle maintenance you added yourself.

OBD-II adapter communication

When you connect to an ELM327-compatible adapter, the app exchanges standard OBD-II command/response strings (e.g. 0100, 03, 0902) directly with the adapter over Bluetooth LE or Wi-Fi. The adapter then talks to your car's ECU. No part of this exchange involves any server controlled by us.

Children's privacy

OBD Connector is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.

Third-party content shipped in the app

The bundled DTC reference content is derived from open-source automotive databases (Wal33D, python-OBD, mytrile, AOSP system_dtcs, yonoss/obdq). Their license attributions are included in the app. None of these third parties receive any data about you โ€” the content is precompiled and shipped offline.

App Store transactions

Payment, refund, and download data is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We never see your payment method, address, or billing information. Apple may share aggregated, non-personal sales statistics with us through App Store Connect; these statistics do not identify individual users.

International users

Because we collect no personal data, no international transfer of personal data occurs. GDPR (EU/EEA), UK GDPR, CCPA (California), LGPD (Brazil), and similar frameworks impose obligations on data controllers; in the absence of any controlled data, those obligations are satisfied by not collecting in the first place. If you believe a specific local law requires additional disclosure, contact the developer below.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, the new version will be posted here. We will not retroactively reduce the privacy protections described above.
